Writer / Director
Holly Holdsworth (she/her) is a writer and director whose work centres on female characters using speculative fiction, absurdity and genre to create spaces to dissect contemporary issues. Her work is informed by her experiences as a bisexual woman and from growing up in a working-class neighbourhood in the East Midlands UK.
Holly’s journey into film & tv began with three years in art departments on productions for the BBC, ITV, Kudos, Sky, and Warp. This hands-on experience provided her with a solid foundation in the practical aspects of filmmaking. She later pursued an MFA in Writing for Stage and Broadcast Media from The Royal Central School of Speech and Drama whilst working as a producing co-ordinator for a London theatre. Her scripts have placed in contests held by the Slamdance Film Festival, WeScreenplay, and Filmmatic and her most recent film Fathom will be in film festivals later this year.
Beyond her film projects, Holly is also committed to nurturing new talent and fostering community within the industry. She conducts workshops, provides script feedback and writes the South West Independent Film (SWIF) digests, a weekly email of opportunities.
